[Posted about twenty minutes after the crash. Tosh is in the engine room, and although there's not much visible behind her it's obvious there's been some ruination happening. She's holding a gauze pad to her hairline above her right eye and there's blood spotting through it.]

Right.

First, the bad news. The engine has been more or less broken into its components, and we're looking at two or three days' work to get it up and running again. Given the violent landing I also suspect the hull's been ripped open.

The good news is that most of the damage seems to be mechanical rather than structural, so being able to leave isn't contingent on scavenging spare parts.

I'd like some volunteers to investigate the exterior damage and undertake repairs. I can supply tools.

[Private to Megamind]

If you're still on the ship I'd appreciate your help.

[Private to Erik]

Check in, please.

[It's evening, and Tosh is sitting on a bench on the deck. Somewhere over her head there's a remote-controlled flying device (you can't really call it a model anything) moving in slow figures-of-eight around the length of the bench.

She's not holding a remote. Exactly. There's a cable plugged into the port in her neck, which is connected to a small transmitter device which was resting on her shoulder but has since slipped into her cleavage; never mind. Interfaced with the program that signals the little flying drone, it's not taking much more than a continuous awareness of its presence to keep it in a holding pattern.

She moved out here when Myfanwy started getting anxious (read: screechy) about another flying pet in her cabin.

Every so often she moves to do something else, picking up the cup of coffee next to her or turning a page in the book she's not-quite-reading, and it lurches or dips but that's fine. Practice makes perfect.]

[OOC: Because occasionally I step outside myself and remember that Tosh doesn't get out much: some time ago she had a dataport installed that allows her to interface with computer systems intuitively. And she keeps fiddling with it and probably won't stop until she's a Cyberman. And Myfanwy is a pteranodon. So that's where we are now.]

[Tosh is sitting on a beat up sofa in front of a white tiled wall; part of the word TORCHWOOD is visible on the wall behind her, printed onto the tile. Anyone around for either mirrorverse flood may remember that this is what Mirror!Tosh's cabin looked like. She's holding a circuit board in one hand and tapping it distractedly against her other hand as she talks.]

Is there currently anyone on board who hunts game in the CES for sport? I wouldn't ask anyone to go out of their way, but if anyone's doing it already then I'd like to have a word. I'd like to -

[There's some unearthly screeching from high above her head and she glances in that direction, but doesn't seem surprised or even startled.]

I'd like to come to an arrangement, if possible.

[Private to Erik]

We should talk. And I need to apologise for being a little...absent. I wanted to give you some space after the port but it's possible I overdid it.

[Public, voice]

In the interests of keeping everyone up to date, I want to explain why some members of our crew were able to return to the ship despite being observed by the occupying force.

[Her spoken language switches to Gallifreyan. She doesn't seem to have noticed.]

The Barge engine has been upgraded with a - normality projector, so to speak, hybridising numerous technologies used by assorted members of our crew. When functional, it will produce a field that will make us seem ordinary and hopefully harmless to those native to the ports we visit.

[Then Japanese:]

In this specific instance it required a little fine-tuning since there were technically two 'native' groups. However, it seems to have worked successfully, and the new addition is secure enough that it should also function in future ports. Ideally, what happened here should never happen again. Which the Admiral should have seen to a long time ago, but never mind.

[Khelish:]

It's been brought to my attention that the field is not effective on those who have fallen overboard. I....don't know if this is something we can or should change.

Anyway. I won't embarrass anyone by naming names, I expect people will want to take credit for themselves or not at all - and - I don't. All I did was bug testing, really. [Understating the case a smidge, but this really was a team effort, she didn't do more than her fair share.] I am grateful to everyone who contributed, however little they might think they did.

[Private to Erik]

[And English again. Hooray!]

Are you in the Infirmary?

[Ten minutes later, text:]

I apologise. Technical glitch.

[And because this is text, you don't get to see how unnerved she is - SHE IS 99% HUMAN SHE SHOULD NOT BE HAVING TECHNICAL GLITCHES.  Anyway, the public element of the above post is repeated, in text, in English.]

[OOC: What's happening here? Well, the USB port to her brain doesn't have a 'read only' setting, and it turns out that plugging yourself into the Barge control systems while installing an incredibly powerful experimental programme isn't the best idea. You're the worst cyborg ever, Tosh.

Don't worry, she's not acquiring multilingual superpowers or anything beyond the ones she had in canon; this is just a brief annoyance she can't control and will clear up in a day or two.]

[Filtered to everyone not assimilated or captured]

Personally I'm not convinced that asking everyone to kill themselves to return to the Barge is the best route forward here, and I doubt the Admiral has put himself out to make sure we have other options.

We may be able to fix the damage done. Anyone who thinks they have any expertise to bring to this, contact me immediately.

[Private to Narvin]

Do you have a TARDIS on board?

[Voice. Toshiko's tone is more cordial than friendly now - noticeably cooler than her first post.]

Well. I understand I've - lost - six months since I was last here. I'm aware I've spent the last two weeks giving the impression that I'm a new arrival on the ship, however, the amnesia has resolved itself now. I've actually spent two years here, albeit non-consecutively.

I'd like to thank everyone who welcomed me and gave me advice and information, and I apologise for asking the same questions I'm sure you've all fielded a thousand times before.

[A long pause. There's a lot of people she'd like to ask about, but the words don't come and eventually she just switches filters. Work to be done.]

[Private to the Admiral]

Please restore Erik's abilities in their entirety.

Would it be possible for me to nominate another Warden to make a request on my behalf for his abilities to be nullified, if I'm killed or incapacitated?

[Hi, Barge. The young woman on the screen is not the slightly paranoid, world-weary Toshiko who got her ass handed to her by the Barge for months on end and lost much of her faith in Torchwood; this is the amnesiac Toshiko who believes she just died in defence of humanity and is more or less okay with that. There's a smile on her face, but it's a little conflicted - there's sadness and some embarrassment in there as well.]

Hello, everyone. It seems I came at a bad time, so if I could make my introductions a bit belatedly: I'm Toshiko Sato of Cardiff, Wales, 2008. The Admiral has asked me here to serve as a Warden and I intend to do the best I can for as long as I'm here.

[A short pause.] It's...come to my attention that there was previously another Warden here with my identity. I...am not her. If it would be too strange for anyone she knew well to speak to me, then...I won't hold a grudge. [She gives a tight, awkward smile.] Although it's certainly not a point of social etiquette I've ever had to address before.

I also understand that some parts of the ship need crew members to help with maintenance. I'm a computer technician and technical engineer by trade, so if there's any relevant work then I'd appreciate being pointed in that direction.

[Filtered to anyone who she ran into during the flood, minus Hoffman, because he was....not helpful. :c ]

Thank you for helping me - my other self - during the flood. It was very kind, and even though it wasn't 'me' and may not have been 'you' either, I appreciate it.
